The Chairs

How cool are these faded beauties? They’re French of course. Pretty pastel with a metal edge, they just ooze the most exquisite soft-grunge vibe. They’ve spent their lives working hard in the canteen of a local school, but they’re not ready to retire just yet. All they require is a bit of oil to stop rust dead in its tracks and they’ll be happy to accommodate guests for a laid-back lunch in the orangery.

The moment I took these lovelies home I felt like staging and styling them. Inspired by the Jardin du Luxembourg I put on a play with the chairs as the protagonists. Nothing gloomy and existentialist like Ionesco’s eponymous play, but a melancholy comedy starring elderly chairs longing for human companionship. I can’t wait for the curtain to go up.
