In the spirit of satoyama I hung an old lantern in the maple tree near the hot tub to mark where the woods begin. In Japan, satoyama represents the harmonious border between village and nature-a reminder that all life is interconnected.

For me, this symbolises the bridge between our inner world and the unseen wisdom of nature. Across the estate, you'll find more satoyama lanterns and benches, each inviting a quiet moment of connection. During lockdown, I wrote a blog about this... Maybe it's time to revisit? Back to winter chores in between retreats. Mild winters favour insect pests such as the pine processionary moth. We put eco-friendly traps around tree trunks naar the house and work areas to stop caterpillars from descending to pupate in the soil. The hairs of these caterpillars are toxic and cause irritation. A minimal intervention where it matters most.
