Sometimes, an artist’s signature is more than just a calling card. Join photographer Peter Stigter as he returns to Domaine Lescure to sign his work. As he pressed the stamp onto his photographs, I saw something shift. This wasn’t just about marking his art; it was about deepening his bond with the place that had inspired it.

I love having Peter’s art in our French home. Every day, I walk past his photographs, and they always reveal something new. I especially love how the changing light transforms them throughout the day. More than just beautiful images, they’re a connection—to him, to his vision, and to the joy of our shared creative process. I wrote more about his work here.

True to his style, Peter took his time for the signature. Nearly a year after installing his artwork in the château, he returned to sign his photos. Inspired by the refined beauty of Chinese seals on antique porcelain, he had spent months carefully crafting a signature that felt uniquely his. His seal reads Jan Willem Peter Stigter, Wyong, 070763.

RITUAL OF CLOSURE

And so, the château became the setting for this final touch. The delighted châtelaine —that would be me— carried each photo down to the kitchen, where Peter, comfortably seated in front of the wood burner, carefully signed them with a seal—some in red, some in black, and some in gold. A statement, a connection, the final touch that added depth and another layer of meaning. Thank you, my beautiful friend, for enriching Domaine Lescure with your art!
